An artist born in Paris, 1981.
He is of mixed french-african descent and is the grandson of the expressionist painter Francis Gruber; he has been a key player in the hip hop scene since 1996 and graduated in fine arts in 2000. His work constantly questions his origins both in the street and on canvas. Kouka develops different portrait forms using them to expand on his chosen themes: the essence of man and identity.
His work can be defined by the expressivity and spontaneity of movement; he willingly allows any imperfection, inaccuracies and bleeding to show. His paintings play with the codes of graffiti to better reach the heart of his research into the status of image.
